Strategic positioning and management of long-term growth in Dungog Shire.

Dungog Shire Council undertook a review of its suite of strategic planning documents, underpinned by the objective of sustainably enabling and accommodating future growth.

Encompassing the draft Dungog Shire Housing and Infrastructure Master Plan, the following were prepared:

• Draft Growth Management Strategy (in the form of a Local Strategic Planning Statement)
• Draft Local Housing Strategy
• Draft Rural Lands Strategy
• Draft Infrastructure Capacity and Prioritisation Plan
• Draft Dungog Strategic Centre Structure Plan

The plans are intended to inform the nature of growth in various areas of the Dungog Shire.

What we did

Atlas was part of a multi-disciplinary team led by Mecone, carrying out market and economic analysis to provide input into the Local Housing Strategy and Local Strategic Planning Statement. This work investigated market need, attitudes and preference of housing and employment floorspace. This culminated in recommendations for the form and distribution of land uses and built form.

The outcome

The strategic planning documents were placed on public exhibition in November 2025. Once finalised and adopted, the plans will guide delivery of housing supported by infrastructure, services and a local economy.
